Blogs are one of the first booms that the social networking trend had started. Before the prevalence of MySpace, Friendster, Facebook, and all other social networking sites, there had already been plenty of people who have started putting up online journals about anything and everything. In fact, there was a time when 40,000 new ones were popping up each day. These blogs ranged from personal rants and raves, product reviews to even more serious topics such as analysis of day to day events or even news. Of course, one of the topics that could be tackled by many blogs is the operations of small businesses or even those of large companies. Because they can be the target topics of such blogs, many businesses have actually tried to change how they run their business. Here are some of the ways where blogs shaped the way companies do their work. More online awareness: Before, people did not really pay much attention to the internet. Many would think that blogs were nothing more than rants by disgruntled people. However, since the boom of blogs started, more and more people have gained renown and plenty of followers. A bad review from them would lead to dozens of potential clients choosing another product or brand. That’s why more companies are now more aware of the things that are being said online, with some even having dedicated staff to monitor it. Employee confidentiality agreement: One of the things that are commonly posted in blogs are rants about work. Unfortunately, these rants would sometimes contain information that is confidential or are for employee’s eyes only. That’s why more companies are now trying to police their own ranks when it comes to the things that they would say in their “private” blogs. The companies are implementing confidentiality clauses that would now prohibit employees from leaking private information.
