Some people who want to engage in social network marketing assume that marketing in social networks is just a new channel or platform to utilize their traditional marketing ideas. They would just use tried and tested methods to attract new customers and hopefully increase their revenue. Unfortunately, people who would rely on traditional marketing methods and then apply them to social network marketing would be in for a big surprise. They would find out that their traditional marketing means would not be as effective in the digital or online world offline. Traditional: This is because traditional marketing methods seem to be much more reliant on in your face advertisements. Flyers, posters, brochures, and other marketing paraphernalia would all rely on a person getting them and then reading them. This is not a big problem if you hand out the flyer to a person immediately but could become quite troublesome if you post it on the wall of an account and hope that the person reads it. In the social marketing world, people have the power to ignore or choose what they see. If they do not like the content or the ad, they could move on to another site. Online Marketing: To be able to make it work, you have to understand the dynamics of social network marketing. By this, I mean recognizing that you would have to have a more personal approach to the way you market your product. You may have to try talking to your clients directly (through messages, comment responses, personal wall posts, and the like) if you want to reap the benefits of marketing through a social network.
